The fight is on to save another local cultural centre in Newham, East London. Performing arts union Equity protested outside the Labour council’s cabinet meeting on 3 December, demanding an emergency grant for Applecart Arts.
We believe if we hadn’t been out campaigning, the centre would have silently been closed. But the campaign has paid off, at least temporarily, and the decision to close the centre was pushed back.
Pollution incidents, aka releasing sewage into our rivers and beaches, up by 40%. A debt pile so massive, a result of decades of squeezing any drops of profit from the water company, the company may run out of cash as soon as March.
“Workers and students will never be defeated”. This was shouted through south London on 28 November. Students and staff from Goldsmiths and UAL universities came together in solidarity with the Palestinian people, and frustration with our universities’ ongoing complicity in genocide.
“They were asking for our votes before the elections and now they are attacking us,” said one of the protesters against the police raid on the Kurdish Community Centre (KCC) the previous day.
