London new members meeting

by Rob Thomas, Hackney and Islington Socialist Party

Over thirty young and new Socialist Party members gathered at the party’s national centre on Saturday 28 June, to attend a London day school.

Taking place over the course of the day were discussions on Trumpism and world perspectives followed by smaller breakout sessions on economics, permanent revolution and the role of a revolutionary party. The afternoon included party building breakout sessions with the final main discussion being on our dual tasks of building the Socialist Party and playing our role in building and strengthening the mass organisations of the working class.

The day provided a brilliant forum for new members to discuss key issues. For some, it was their first larger Socialist Party event outside of their local branch meetings. Nonetheless, the level of discussion, contributions and questions raised were incredibly sharp throughout the day, which I think is a reflection of the character of the members the London region is recruiting and developing.

A massive thank you to all the organisers of the day school, all those that gave up their time to provide lead-offs for the discussions. It was a brilliant day with many in the social after expressing a desire for more similar events going forward.
