by Bill Reed, West London Socialist Party
Not a single copy of the Socialist went unsold in West London last week. We sold 66 papers — with many buyers telling us that the sight and sound of Keir Starmer at Labour’s conference had been a factor.

We sold 23 in 40 minutes at Ealing Broadway on the day of Starmer’s speech, and 12 the day after. Obviously, some people had a premonition that they would need a Socialist to get through Labour’s week, as we sold 18 and 11 on the Saturday and Monday before.
If the Labour Party on TV wasn’t enough motivation to buy, perhaps our slogan ‘Can’t stand Trump, can’t trust Starmer’ had an effect. Many people gave us a thumbs up, even if they didn’t stop to buy.
What is certain is that there are many more people prepared to buy the Socialist than we can ever meet. How can we expand our sales to meet this hidden demand?
Here’s another slogan: ‘Sell more, more sellers.’ It is surprisingly easy to sell our paper. We are very proud of our analysis of society and our perspectives. Let’s make sure more people get to read them.
