by James Ivens, East London Socialist Party
Big joint protest against Hackney’s Labour council tonight by multiple different campaigns. Unison, IWGB, housing campaigners, anti-gentrification campaigners, children’s centre campaigners…
Almost every Labour council in east London seems to be picking fight after fight with the local working class. With elections in just over six months.
The Socialist Party says: enough! Campaigns should come together to draw up a People’s Budget that gives the borough everything it needs. The councils could use reserves to end austerity now, send the bill to Boris Johnson, and lead a mass campaign to win the funding.
If they won’t, well… TUSC – Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition will be taking applications for no-cuts trade union and community campaign candidates.
