Philip Glanville, directly elected mayor of Hackney since 2016, has resigned in disgrace. Questions emerged about when he and the Labour Party became aware that former Labour councillor Tom Dewey was raided and arrested on child pornography charges, and when he broke off contact.

London free school meals scheme step in right direction but nowhere near far enough
London Labour mayor Sadiq Khan has unveiled a scheme to make free school meals available to every primary school pupil in London. Any support for struggling families will be welcomed. But the scheme could go much further.
Islington occupation says: ‘Fill empty homes’
Housing activists in north London occupied 28 empty flats next to Pentonville Prison on 26 August, saying that the Ministry of Justice has failed to allow the flats to be retrofitted for homeless people in the borough.

We transferred over from the private employer Serco into the NHS. Porters, security, domestics, catering, ward hosts. Some departments have been given the £1,655 lump sum that was paid to NHS staff, but not all.

Over 2800 NHS workers in Unite will be on strike, over safe staffing and pay, including cleaners, caterers, porters, nurses and pathologists.
