Students at University College London have gone into occupation demanding an end to the institution’s support for the Israeli state onslaught on Palestine. UCL management has responded by having security close the campus to the public.

A third of Londoners had the opportunity to vote for candidates who oppose Tory attacks and cuts passed on by London’s incumbent Labour mayor, Sadiq Khan. Collectively, our fighting socialist programme won over 15,000 votes.

Parents and supporters spoke at a lobby of Hackney Council to expose Labour’s short-sighted plan to close, privatise, and threaten jobs at several children centres with up to 120 childcare places cut, and 50 staff redundant.

There are 63,000 Londoners in temporary accommodation. Labour Mayor of London Sadiq Khan’s housing strategy has started building 20,000 homes by 2024, far less than the 100,000 needed to keep up with demand.

The UN Security Council has voted in favour of an immediate ceasefire, but the Israeli state’s attacks on Gaza continue. Thousands attended a protest again in central London on 30 March.

London is falling apart at the seams. 32% of us are living in mouldy homes. Almost ¼ of us are living in poverty. We commute on a crumbling tube network and many of us struggle to get by.

Nowadays, Waltham Forest Labour calls its council cuts “tactical management actions”. When Labour councillors voted for £18 million worth of cuts, Waltham Forest trades council called a protest and, naturally, our local Socialist Party branch was there.
