Why you should join the Socialist Party: ‘Get organised today’

by Emily Lyndon, Camden and Haringey Socialist Party

As capitalist crisis deepens across the globe, many of us are asking: ‘What can be done?’

In a capitalist society, individualism is everywhere we turn. From competitive job markets, to education, the housing crisis and worsening living standards.

We are told time and time again that we are responsible for the desperate conditions that we live in. We’re told this so that we don’t question the capitalist system that profits from our work and the dire conditions that come from wealth hoarding and the destruction of the planet.

Joining the Socialist Party gives you space to question and deconstruct the status quo, gives you an opportunity to develop ideas and understanding of how we got here, and also how we can challenge and change the way that society runs.

In the Socialist Party we have weekly local branch meetings, where we discuss socialist ideas in depth, and plan how we organise in our communities and workplaces. When campaigning locally, we discuss our ideas with people while developing a socialist programme that offers an alternative to the rotten capitalist system.

As Socialist Party members we attend local and national protests that challenge austerity and war. We are active trade union members. We fight to put socialist ideas forward that challenge the capitalists and ensure better conditions for workers.

We attend, organise, and build for strike action to support workers. We struggle to transform the trade unions into fighting, democratic organisations.

In doing all this we aim to help the working class to see its potential collective power and build the Socialist Party as a vital part of the struggle for the socialist transformation of society.
